No motorcycle rider wants to drop their bikes on the rough roads, but there are times that accidents do happen. With that in mind, one would want to ensure one’s safety and motorcycle while on the road. An accident can be highly costly, especially if the damage is enormous. The cost for repairs may be similar to the motorcycle’s original price if the damage scale is significant.

In this regard, an engine guard is genuinely worth it since it can offer adequate protection to the engine. Additionally, any motorcycle rider also needs to have SW Motech crash bars which serve several purposes such as holding the motorcycle off the ground if you tip over and avoiding your leg from being crushed under the motorcycle in case of an accident.

The SW-Motech 790 Adventure engine guard is considerably big since it has a big job. Like other engine guards, the primary function of the SW-Motech 790 Engine Guard is to protect the lower part of the engine as well as the fuel tank, the header pipe of the exhaust, and the catalytic converter.

The new KTM 790 Adventure engine guard from SW-Motech is tough and comes at a price. It is mainly made from a single sheet of 4mm thick brushed aluminium to ensure maximum weight. The engine guard weighs about 4.4 kg with the heavy-duty sub-frame and mounting hardware, bringing the overall weight to around 8kg.

The engine guard itself does not mount directly to the engine but uses mounting brackets that indirectly transfer impacts to 8 different mounting points on the engine. It also transfers another 4 points on the existing front support rail that helps significantly mitigate the chance of impact damage to the lower part of the bike.

Installing a motorcycle engine guard alone can take around one and a half hours. However, the assistance of an experienced mechanic would most likely be able to do the installation process in less time. One helpful tip in installing the engine guard involves laying out all the mounting bracket parts, including the mounting hardware.
