TVS Ntorq 125: Torq of the town

The scooter market has gone wild in India, for there are way too many models being launched by various manufacturers – the most recent of them all being the ‘power scooter’. It seems to lure youngsters and buyers who’d love to own and ride something fast and powerful. Most of the scooter sales happen to be from the 110cc segment, which is more family-oriented. However, the current demand for power scooters is pretty high, and TVS happens to have ushered in the Ntorq at the right time. It offers a 125cc engine – a first from TVS, lots of features and of course, stunning looks.

Engine

Nestled in the frame is a 124.79cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 9.10bhp and 10.50Nm of torque. The motor is air-cooled and comes paired to a CVT automatic transmission. For 2020, the engine has been made compliant with BSVI emission standards.

Specifications

The Ntorq hits the right notes when it comes to the design language. At the front, it gets a halogen headlamp with a LED DRL. The angular and shapely body panels are sure to lure a lot of youngsters. Even the dual-tone colour theme is very attractive. Placed in the apron is the large headlight with the turning indicators positioned on the handlebar. The aluminium footpegs look good and what’s particularly eye-catching is that red engine-cooling fan. We also liked the sporty exhaust. At the rear, it sports an LED tail light along with vents on either side. Adding to its appeal are the 12-inch, diamond-cut alloy wheels and the split grab handle for the pillion at the rear. It gets a full-digital instrument cluster and Bluetooth as well. It can be accessed via the Smart Connect app and reflects information like average speed, service reminder, engine oil temperature, incoming call alert, Last Parked Location Assist and Navigation Assist. The motor has a strong mid-range and the scooter manages a top speed of 85kph. Throttle response is really good. There are barely any vibrations felt, and the grunt from the exhaust is cool. At 116kgs, the kerb weight is decent. The ground clearance, on the other hand, is 155mm, while the scooter has a wheelbase of 1285mm and a seat height of 785mm.

The rear view mirrors are well positioned and offer good visibility. Under the seat, you will find an LED lamp and a USB charger. Turning the key to the left opens the fuel filler cap, and turning it to the right flips the seat open. The riding posture is rather comfortable. There’s a lot of grip on offer, and it feels confidence inspiring around corners. The suspension is on the stiff side, and this helps the scooter in terms of handling. The petal disc at the front provides really good bite, bringing it to a halt in no time. At the front, the scooter rides on telescopic suspension, while the rear gets a hydraulic type coil spring shock absorber. As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around a high rigidity underbone rectangular tube type frame. The Ntorq runs on 100/80-12 tyres on both ends.
