How to Preserve Your Car Paint from Fading Too Soon

Refreshing your car’s paint (especially with the same color) every year or two could be costly and boring. Of course, you may have to do it if you are concerned about the fading vehicle you drive around. Colors fade, and the only option you may have is to get a solution that keeps your car paint fresh for as long as possible.

Causes of fading

Sunlight is the primary cause. Ultraviolet rays from the sun easily remove the moisture and oils from paint. Other agents include atmospheric chemicals, salt from roads, and sometimes harsh chemicals from soaps. Bird droppings, too, could deface cars, and the acid in them are capable of fading paints.

Waxing:

The best preventive measure is to wax the car thoroughly. Car waxing is also known as coating. There are specific coats that could be applied to your automobile to keep the paint from fading away early. These coatings, called hydrophobic coating, are designed to keep the wear and fade from the paint. By so doing, you preserve most of its freshness for a long time. Hydrophobic coatings are safer and better to use because they keep water off the paint, and they are usually free from dirt. They are also much cheaper than regular paints and will save you the money you would have spent repainting your car every two years.

Of course, the coating itself would expire, and then the paint would begin to fade, but you would have extended the lifespan by at least four times the average period it would stay without a hydrophobic coating.

Avoid harsh environmental conditions

Another way to prevent your car from losing its color too quickly is to always park it away from sunlight. Keep your vehicle in the shade when you can help it. A cool environment is also helpful. If you have to park outside, use a car cover to protect against sunlight, rainfall, and bird droppings.

Have a proper cleaning routine:

Also, washing the car regularly with appropriate soap and water would help. Dirt could form a layer around the paint and discolor it. But make sure to use soap without harsh chemicals that could hasten the fading process.

A consistent build-up of abrasive chemical rub-offs on the car will speed up oxidation that causes car fading. So, a timely cleaning routine will significantly help to reduce fading. You can schedule to clean it thrice a month.
